Country Weathered Wood and Rusted Metal
Driving through the rolling hillsides and coming up on an old red barn, sometimes situated on a wide-open spread of green grass with a blue-sky backdrop or poised in striking contrast against a pristine snow-white day. The barn is a reminiscent icon of all things simple and natural, a symbol of hard work and endurance, and the barn is more than a structure. Each has its own story to tell – I see stories of beauty and brokenness. Side by side with heartache, suffering and tragedy, there also can be joy and love. I somehow have a feeling of hope when I encounter an old barn, knowing for sure it has weathered many storms. Storms that I know produce character – evident in the time-worn wood. It stands, through wind, snow, sleet, and torrid heat. I perceive the will to survive. The barn symbolizes shelter and warmth on a frigid winter night, and it bursts with productivity and life in the summertime with radiant sunshine.
City Concrete, Glass, and Steel
I have established a signature style of photography that captures an extraordinarily beautiful view of the ordinary. To have the ability to present a combination of sophistication with a sense of drama from an otherwise barren, cold, and isolated landscape. The process of photographing an object, not the object’s innate value, makes it worthy of attention. The photograph plays with an illusion, alluding to the true nature, and character of the subject. My interpretations of architecture and isolated objects render compelling thrusts and counterthrusts, sharp focus and detail, and offer a unique prospective flowing with symmetry and balance. The subjects are attuned to a unique perspective in which they lose any sense of function and become monumental forms. I reveal a moment in time where lines, light, shape, and shadows converge together, composing a sticking art form of its own. There is an unexpected joy of discovery throughout each city.
